Concept Art Posted for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy

[Update: Check out the larger gallery of Marvel Phase 2 art here!]

Iron Man 3 had a steady stream of conceptual art leak online, revealing many of the Iron Legion armor suits under Tony Stark?s command, but despite?Thor: The Dark World releasing later this year,?Captain America: The Winder Soldier beginning production and?Guardians of the Galaxy shooting late summer, no such imagery has surfaced from the other Phase Two films.

That changes today with the release of the Phase One box set, featuring the home video Blu-ray releases of every Marvel Studios film released to date, headlined by The Avengers. In it is a preview for the next Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the timing of first-look artwork for?Captain America: The Winter Soldier and?Guardians of the Galaxy?couldn?t be better.

Our first look at the Guardians of the Galaxy core roster came with the official announcement and artwork released during the Marvel Studios panel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con?last summer.

Guardians of the Galaxy Concept Art from Comic-Con 2012

From left to right:?Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista),?Groot?(looks like an Ent from middle-earth), the dual-wielding?Star-Lord (Chris Pratt),?Rocket Racoon?and the sword-wielding?Gamora. Thanks to?GeekZenith, we have three more pieces of production art for?Guardians of the Galaxy:

The grid lights in the Tron-esque room?similar to that of the map room from Prometheus, and it seems to be a scene involving Star-Lord in an area of ruins, or a projection of such an area. The other two feature large starships flying in beautiful alien, yet Earthly, skies, and a few of the Guardians sitting over a table in a bar. That image looks as if it were art for the infamous Cantina scene in?Star Wars, except we hope Star-Lord shoots first in this instance. An interesting observation to note is that Drax has a rather different design in this art, compared to the first reveal of his character design. In the art from Comic-Con up top, Drax sports a vest and his skin looked as if it were stitched together thin plated armor, reminiscent of Frankenstein, since he is a dead man?re-purposed?as a weapon. In this image however, he?s embracing the Marvel Comics design, more muscular, topless, and covered in red tattoos.

Who are the other characters? Is that blue lady Nebula?

The fourth image is the first released art for?Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the first look at Bucky in the modern era, bionic arm, long hair and all. Movie art couldn?t be more faithful to the comics:

Captain America The Winter Soldier Bucky art

Does Steve Rogers carry his shield around in public while wearing normal clothes? For moviegoers who don?t know about ?The Winter Soldier,? he?s Cap?s best friend Bucky who seemingly fell to his death in?The First Avenger. In the books however, he was picked up by the Soviets, who fixed up his body (not his amnesia though) and turned him into an elite assassin, awakening him from cryostatis every few years for important missions, hence his modern youthfulness. He has history with Black Widow and that will be explored in the film.

Bonus: Watch part of the Phase 2 Preview featured on The Avengers box set:

Iron Man 3?releases May 3, 2013,?Thor: The Dark World?on November 8, 2013,?Captain America: The Winter Soldier?on April 4, 2014,?Guardians of the Galaxy?on?August 1, 2014,?The Avengers 2?on May 1, 2015 and?Ant-Man?on November 6, 2015.
